Steps for Building a Successful WebSite.
Step 1 - Develop a Plan
Before any work can be done, you must develop a plan. Your
plan needs to define the purpose of your website, and list any products or
services you wish to offer.
To define the purpose of your site, list what you want your website
to do for your business; some goals might be:
...to inform customers about news or upcoming events.
To save time answering the same questions over and over again.
To generate leads for potentially new customers.
To reduces the cost of marketing. (Namely: literature & postage.)
To sell your products and/or services online.
If you're planning to offer products or services from your website, be sure
to list each of them along with detailed descriptions. Each description should
note the benefits and features plus any other information you think might
be relevant or helpful.
Your plan may be to start out with a simple site that just advertises your
products or services, and later, when you're ready, to upgrade your site
to sell your products or services online. If this is the case, be sure to
include any thoughts or ideas as you currently picture them.
Don't panic if your unsure about certain aspects of your plan. The web allows
a great deal of flexibility, and besides, your website will take time to
develop. Your plans will change, and change again. And everything will start
over and be changed again.
